“The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him and He helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise Him.” Psalm 28:7
Time of Devotion.
Having two football players in our family, this has been one of my favorite verses to pray for them. On the football field they need strength of mind to recall and execute the plays they’ve learned. They need physical strength to overpower their opponent and strength to endure four quarters of demanding exertion. And of course, I always want them to be shielded from injury. But the real key lies in where we place our trust.
This week begins a new season of football with lots of new players and new faces on our coaching staff. For many of you, it’s the first time you have taken a child to college and you’re not quite sure how you’re going to adjust to this new season of life. New beginnings bring lots of unknowns which can cause some level of anxiety, but they also bring loads of opportunities!
Call to Prayer.
Let’s join together in praying that this season our hearts will trust in the One who is able to strengthen the bond of unity on the team and shield them from the enemy. Let’s pray that our players will trust in Jesus on and off the field, in the classroom, in new friendships and in deepening their relationship with Him. And let’s pray that we as parents will lead by example.
Lord Jesus, you are the strength of this Taylor Football program. Will you bind this team together? Unify the players, give them a love for you and for one another on and off the field. God be their shield. Protect them physically on the football field; shield their hearts and minds from any schemes of the enemy. Fill them with joy and peace as they trust in you. We praise you and thank you, in Jesus Name. Amen.
Week One's "Call to Prayer" was written by Tracy Watson, wife to Stephen and mom of three, including #35 Tyler Watson for the Trojans.
