Good Footing--Carson Wentz (September 21)

But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. Romans 5:8

During week 13 of the 2016 season, Carson Wentz wore a special pair of cleats. On one foot was painted “Ao1” and on the other foot was “Romans 5:8”. Ao1 indicated that Carson was playing for an Audience of One, his Lord Jesus, and the Romans 5:8 explained his selection of the one. Those who know Carson testify that he lives a level-headed life. It all goes back to the message of the cleats.

When you know that you are loved, you live life differently When you are loved like God loves his children, you don’t need to work to impress anyone else. Having the affection of the King of the Universe is all that you really need. It was God’s idea to send His son. It was motivated by a great love that can only come from God.

Don’t miss the wonder of this verse, though. See when God showed that love? It was while we were still sinners! That is so very important to acknowledge. Recognizing that you didn’t have to do a thing in order to receive that love is a game-changer. You do not have to perform in life at a certain level to keep this love. You do not need to beg God to see your goodness in order to receive His love.

If that is the case, why is God our audience? Our actions before our audience of one is not born out of need to earn, but out of our desire to show our gratitude and joy! When you play football or attend class, do you perform out of an attitude of thanksgiving, or are you trying to prove something that doesn’t need to be proven? The level-headed life, like Carson Wentz, is available to you when you keep the perspective of the cleats!
