PREPARING FOR TRAINING CAMP: HELP FOR TAYLOR FOOTBALL FAMILIES

Updated: Sep 1, 2019

Maybe you’re new to Taylor University Football. Or maybe you need a memory jogger on how to help your player prepare for camp... either way, here's some practical help!

Freshmen, Sophomore & Junior players can arrive at Samuel Morris Hall beginning at 10:00 am on Tuesday, August 13th.

  • The players will all live together in Samuel Morris Hall (known as “Sammy”) for the first week of Training Camp. Sammy is air conditioned.

  • During the first weekend of Training Camp (on Sunday, August 18th) players assigned to dorms other than Sammy, will move from their temporary residence in Sammy to their permanent dorm room. The players manage this move together. Typically players assigned to Sammy will assist other players moving into permanent dorm rooms. But remember, they are still in Training Camp, so it is not expected for parents to return to campus at this time.

  • New students (non-football players) arrive on campus for Welcome Weekend on Friday, August 23rd. Most football families return to campus on this day or on Saturday August 24th to aid in final dorm room set-up and/or participate in Welcome Weekend activities. As the weekend gets closer, you may want to be in communication with your player about his schedule for Friday/Saturday and make the best decision for your family.

Here are a few additional thoughts to help you and your player develop your family's best plan:

On August 13th, at a MINIMUM players should bring:

  • Bedding/Towels/Personal Care (shower, etc.)

  • Workout gear (Shorts/Taylor T-shirts, etc.) for Training Camp (including cleats, compression gear, gloves if used, etc.)

  • Other non-football clothing and shoes (including swim suit, beach towel)

  • Laundry basket/bag, laundry detergent, softener, etc.

For August 13th, you might also consider bringing:

  • Laptop (so your player can ensure he is set-up on the Taylor system, etc. and can seek out assistance prior to class starting if needed)

  • Healthy, non-perishable snacks, Gatorade, water for the dorm room (or a Yeti, etc., to keep continuously hydrated)

  • Bike with lock (If you are planning to bring a bike for the semester, it is reasonable to bring it on the 13th if it is convenient. Make sure to have a lock.)

For families living extreme distances and unable to return during Welcome Weekend, pack strategically (especially if your player is not permanently assigned to Samuel Morris Hall) – and bring your player’s dorm room contents on August 13th. They’ll find a way to make it work!
