Temple Power--Demario Davis (August 28)

Do you not know that you are God's temple and that God's Spirit dwells in you?

1 Corinthians 3:16

The temple was the most holy structure in all of Israel. It was the place where God lived and where the Israelites could be close to God’s presence. Amazing things happened in that location. It was as holy a place as there was.

So how are you like God’s temple? If we see the parallels we have to take a step back and acknowledge that amazing things can happen in you. You are a holy place and a place where others can be close to God. I don’t know about you, but my life does not always feel like that. Why is that? If God states through Paul that His followers are His temple, it has to be true.

The key is in the second part of the verse. It’s the Holy Spirit in you that makes your identity as a temple a reality. The New Testament is filled with incredible instances where the presence of the Holy Spirit changes everything. People are healed, raised from the dead, talking in languages that don’t even know, released from prison… The Holy Spirit has not changed and is still capable of each and every one of these actions.

The problem is that we don’t recognize the presence of the Holy Spirit. We live in our comfortable Western lives and don’t really see a need for a power like this. However, there are places all over the world that are experiencing unbelievable acts of God through people who recognize that they are the temple of God indwelt by the Holy Spirit.

This is one of Demario Davis favorite memory verses. He meditates on it daily and finds it very empowering and has his perspective changed as a result. It may seem like a small thing, but that is the beginning of the Holy Spirit moving. What would happen if you took a moment each day to acknowledge that you are the temple dwelling place of God and He wants to make a difference in the world through you? Take a moment to meditate on this verse and ask God to show you that it is true and real in you. You might be surprised what He does next--miracles still happen.
