Unity That Makes a Difference--(August 16)

“I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me.”

John 17: 20-21

One of the great feelings in life is being a part of a group of people who are unified to accomplish something meaningful together. More than likely, this is one of the reasons you have done what is necessary to be a part of a college football team. You really do want to make a difference.

It’s amazing to think that Jesus knew that about us. When he prays for the unity of believers, he is praying for a oneness that, when you think about it, is mind blowing! His prayer that believers would be one is a concept that is far beyond our wildest imaginations. In reality, however, that is the easy part to grasp. Not only does He want us to be one, but he wants us to be one with Him and the Father--one with them just as they are one. When we read that, it is so far beyond our comprehension that we often just skip right over that idea. Stop and think about it for a moment.

The perfect relationship of the Trinity is so amazingly powerful. Jesus passionately desires that experience for us--perfect love, clear understanding, unity of purpose, and inexpressible JOY!! If Jesus prays that for us, it is going to happen! What if we desired this oneness like He desires it? How would we act differently if that was our passion?

Notice one other thing…..the purpose and goal in the unity He desires is clear. He wants the world to believe in Him so they may become part of this unified existence as well. What if the Trojan football team were to catch this vision that Jesus has? Imagine the incredible team that is possible. That team would change the world. That team would play football in a way that has never been seen before and others would believe by seeing you interact and play together. Ask God to give you that vision and to make it a reality. It would be beyond anything we have ever experienced to watch Him work and be a part of what He does!
